NYS DMV - TVB Traffic Ticket Appeal - Enter Your Driver Information

Step 1: Enter the Traffic Ticket Number and the Appellant Information

Important Information About This Transaction:

You can only use this transaction to enter information that is required to appeal a DMV Traffic Violations Bureau determination.

When you submit your appeal information in this transaction, it does not mean your appeal is accepted. The DMV Appeals Board must determine that your appeal meets legal requirements.

You will receive a letter, from the DMV Appeals Board about the status of your online appeal submission. You can also return to this transaction to check the status of an appeal you previously filed or to update appeal information.

To complete this Step, enter the information required below, check that the information is correct, and then select the button at the bottom that displays the word "Continue."

A business or organization must know the Client Identification Number (CID) assigned to the business or organization by the NYS DMV to file an appeal online.

If you are not eligible to file an appeal online, you can file an appeal by mail:

  • To appeal an eligible TVB traffic conviction by mail, use form AA-33.
  • To appeal a DMV determination other than a TVB conviction or penalty by mail, use form AA-33A (Appeal Form).
  • For default convictions, you can appeal the denial of your application to reopen the default conviction only after your form AA-3.3 (Application to Reopen a Default Conviction) has been denied by the DMV TVB Default Unit.

Enter numbers and letters only (ten characters). Do not enter spaces or hyphens.
Traffic Ticket Number.  If a character in the number looks like the letter "O" enter the number zero (0). If you need help, see the sample traffic tickets.
Driver Information or Business CID  
Note: Enter your NYS DMV Client ID Number if you have one.

Driver or Business Client ID Number:
Enter numbers only (nine digits). Do not enter spaces or hyphens.
Client ID Number. Enter the 9-digit Client ID number from your NYS photo driver license, learner permit or non-driver photo ID card. Do not enter a driver license number from another state or nation.

For drivers, if you do not have a NYSDMV photo document or a NYS Client ID Number, enter your name and date of birth below.

Driver Middle Initial:
Enter one letter only.
Driver Name. For drivers, enter your last name and your first name as the names appear on your NYS photo document, or as the names appear on the traffic ticket. Do not enter spaces. If your name contains a hyphen or period, enter the hyphen or period. Do not enter other punctuation.

Enter a middle initial only if a middle initial appears on your NYS photo document or on the traffic ticket.

Driver Date of Birth (mmddyyyy):
Enter numbers only (eight digits). Do not enter spaces or punctuation marks.
Driver Date of Birth.  Enter two digits for the month, then two digits for the day, then four digits for the year. For example, enter the date of May 2, 1964 like this: 05021964.

Your Email Address.  Enter a valid email address, and re-enter the email address to verify it. The DMV will send you a confirmation of this transaction by email.

Appeal Access Number  
Appeal Access Number:
Enter numbers only. Do not enter spaces or hyphens.
Appeal Access Number.  If you want to update an appeal previously filed online, enter the Appeal Access Number you received when you filed the original appeal. You can then view the status of the appeal or update the appeal.

If you do not enter the Appeal Access Number, you can view the status of the appeal, but you cannot update the appeal.

There is no Appeal Access Number when you first file your appeal.
